Better Block projects have been popping up nation-wide and on June 23 my neighborhood will be joining the movement.  By identifying underutilized commercial space with the potential to reinvigorate an urban neighborhood, Better Block projects transform one city block into active destinations.  Better Block Jefferson Park will redraw the street, filling it with food vendors, a pop-up cafe, live music, public art, and local artisans.

The Object Shop will be providing street planters and furniture with the gracious donation of lumber from Sprung Construction.  Many thanks to Gosia Kung, Cheryl Patrick, Brooke Bailey, and the lengthy list of neighbors - all donating their time and talent to put on this event.

Late one night while my friends were asleep, I staked their yards with my newest Object.  Should you find yourself in the position in which you can't have a dog but want the protection only man's best friend can provide - have I got the solution for you! 

This level of home protection will turn heads.  A friend of mine called to report several passers-by taking photos of themselves next to the sign.

I was thrilled to have provided the scenic design for Bill Mooney's original musical comedy, Casanova at Twilight.  Constructed entirely of bedsheets, the set was hung at CU's Black Box Theater. 

A big thank you to the fabulous director Valorie Mooney, lighting designer Gary McCrumb, and composer Hunter Ewen for a fun project with such a great group.

This mess of wires is from my first adventure in circuitry and Arduino with much help from the soldering savant Paul Preston.

For those interested in getting started in digital art or electronics in general, I highly recommend SparkFun Electronics located in Boulder, Colorado.  They have an exhaustive inventory and offer intro through advanced classes covering a wide range of electronic objectives.

How to read the clock:
Hours are read across the top row of each panel from left to right.  Each panel contains 3 hours and 15 minutes.  As each minute passes an LED illuminates the next frame, slowly filling the display as the next hour approaches.

Breaking up the clock like this preserves our familiar method of breaking up time into 4 quarters and allows the display to be easily read from afar.

The graphics indicate the 4 stages of stress as read on an ECG.  An all too common example of how my heart reacts to the balancing act of social engagements, personal to-dos, and fast approaching project deadlines.

The Denver Mobile Design Show turned quite a few heads at First Friday on Santa Fe.  For being the first box truck I’ve ever turned into a mobile gallery, I’d say it was a complete success and a whole lot of fun to put on. 

We plan to do this again, so stay tuned for spring 2012 announcements…

Denver Mobile Design Show - see you again in 2012!

I'm really excited to be a part of this pop-up gallery during September's First Friday Art Walk on Santa Fe.  The Denver Mobile Design Show is a mobile gallery inside a 16' box truck featuring local talent from fashion design to sculpture to photography.  Come visit and see my contributions including tongue-in-cheek furniture and my first leap into the world of electronics.  Many thanks to the ever-clever Paul Preston for helping suss out hardware, wiring, and coding the microchips.  You make tech-talk sound sexy.

We couldn't be anymore excited to have Lunchbox join our team.  Our youngest member at only 8 weeks old, he's jumped in with all four feet - testing drills and checking the density of hardwoods.  It's been a whirlwind since his first day on the job, with 3 appointments a day - meeting friends, family, and neighbors.

But it's not all fun and games.  He's had to make some adjustments since the recent transfer from his loving birth family in Plano, TX.  Lunchbox has met the challenge with due diligence, spearheading a new demolition department here at The Object Shop.  A department we didn't previously realize there was a need for. 

In his free time he enjoys lounging at Jefferson Park, shredding the underside of the couch, and napping under mom's office chair.
